Franciacorta (Lombardiet) generelt
Champagne ER mere kendt, men Franciacorta's mousserende vine vinder ofte over Champagnerne i blindsmagninger.

Vi må da have nogle privilegier tilbage!"

Majolini, Fraciacorta

Men prøv selv.

TTHE WINERY’S HISTORY
The winery’s roots are deep and can be traced back to the fifteenth century when the Majolini family settled in Ome. The family began growing grapes almost immediately, and the fact that the family surname – Majolini – is a derivation of the Maiolina vine is proof of this. We have a relationship with the land that has given us enormous satisfaction, particularly to our father Valentino, from whom we inherited the passion and love for wine-making. It was he who decided, around the end of the 1960s, to invest in the old family vineyard and to plant the Ruc di Gnoc, a magnificent vineyard high on the hill that still produces a wine of the same name: ‘Ruc de Gnoc’.

It should be no surprise, therefore, that I and my brothers wanted to develop the project that our father had begun further. The turning point came in the early 1990s with the acquisition of the superb area called ‘Campei’ where work began on building our new winery in 1995. It has a surface area of 4,000 square metres and overlooks a beautiful valley.

MAIOLINA
The Maiolina is unquestionably one of the longest-stablished vines and typical of the large vineyard that once covered most of Ome. It produced huge quantities of wine (if not pruned it could produce up to 7 kilograms of grapes) with a low alcohol content but with such an intense red colour that it stained glasses and bowls.

Now the Maiolini brothers have saved it from almost certain extinction and, a couple of years ago, vinified enough of it to bring out a symbolic production of 360 magnums. An application has been made to the Ministry of Agricultural Policies to grant Maiolina official recognition as an indigenous vine.

THE PROJECT
The most important undertakings that always guided Ezio Maiolini and his family were undoubtedly that of giving a strong sense of continuity to a tradition that has lasted for years and, above all, of producing a wine in which no compromise is made in terms of quality.
Everything was planned with discipline and precision and could be told in a book or a film. For this reason, after many years of hard, determined work, we now wish to tell that story in words and pictures.
The life of the winery and the fascinating life of wine will be recounted in the elegant, limited-edition series called I Quaderni di Cantina that will certainly become a collector’s item.

GROWTH
The growth of a winery depends to an enormous extent on research. All producers of quality wines think in terms of quality, not quantity. Since 1981 our main aim has been to increase the potential of our land, and to improve our production techniques in full respect of the wine-making tradition.

THE AREA OF OME (Ome, la terra)
Ome is a splendid and unmatched area that excels for its unusual geology. It is unlike all the other municipalities in Franciacorta as it lies in a small and narrow valley at the foot of Brione (800 metres). Surrounded by green hills and with a microclimate that is unique in Franciacorta, the Majolini vineyards derive full benefit from their location and give our wine their recognised excellence.

The History of the Area (edited by Angelo Valsecchi)

THE WINERY

With the different qualities of wines that it offers, Cantina Majolini has full right to be included among the list of top wineries, not only in Franciacorta, but throughout Italy. Over the last few years, the winery has drawn attention to itself in the wine business through the passion, skills and hard work of the Maiolini brothers, and it has now reached the highest levels in the industry.

The WINES:

The district of Franciacorta produces Italy’s most exclusive and honoured product, the outcome of rigorous selection throughout the production and distribution phases.
Our Franciacorta sparkling wines are produced using Chardonnay and either Pinot Noir or Pinot Blanc grapes. They are obtained by maturing the wine for at least 25 months from the harvest, of which a minimum of 18 months is bottle refermentation on the lees. For the Millesimato, the maturation period is increased to 37 months, of which 30 are on the lees. Cantina Majolini produces different types of Franciacorta: Brut, Satèn, Millesimato, Non dosato and Rosé.
